The Platform
Four Priorities. Zero Excuses.
Omar Rodriguez doesn't deal in vague promises. Here's exactly what he'll fight for as Mayor — and how he plans to get it done.
Priority 01
Transparency & Open Government
Residents deserve to know exactly how their tax dollars are being spent.
For too long, major decisions in Saddle Brook have been made with limited information released to the public. Delayed OPRA responses, incomplete cost figures on big projects, and a lack of clear reporting leave residents in the dark. Omar believes sunlight is the best disinfectant. A mayor who works for the people must open the books and keep them open.
Omar will require timely responses to OPRA requests, release full project cost breakdowns, and create easy-to-understand public dashboards so every resident can see where the money goes. He will also push for greater public notice and participation before major spending decisions are locked in.
Omar's Commitments
- Mandate timely responses to all OPRA requests
- Publish full, itemized costs for major capital projects
- Create a simple online transparency portal for budgets and contracts
- Require clearer public notice before significant spending votes
Priority 02
Fiscal Responsibility
Saddle Brook families and seniors cannot keep paying more for the same results.
Rising taxes, growing budgets, and questionable spending have put real pressure on working families and fixed-income residents. Omar's approach is straightforward: stop the waste, demand better value for every dollar, and protect taxpayers first. He will treat the township budget the way responsible residents treat their own household budgets — carefully and with clear priorities.
Omar will review spending line by line, freeze non-essential increases, and fight against automatic tax hikes. He will also push for better long-term planning so the township stops reacting to problems and starts preventing them.
One of Omar's first priorities will be eliminating the water and sewer fee that has burdened Saddle Brook residents. This is an unnecessary charge that hits families and seniors on fixed incomes the hardest — and it ends under his administration.
Omar's Commitments
- Conduct a full review of township spending in the first year
- Eliminate the water and sewer fee for Saddle Brook residents
- Hold the line on unnecessary tax and fee increases
- Prioritize core services over non-essential programs
- Require clear cost-benefit analysis before major new spending
Priority 03
Infrastructure That Actually Works
Roads, drainage, and basic services should work the first time — no more excuses.
Too many streets in Saddle Brook remain in poor condition year after year. Drainage problems, aging water infrastructure, and delayed maintenance affect daily life and property values. Omar believes residents shouldn't have to wait for basic services that other towns take for granted.
He will prioritize a realistic, multi-year road and infrastructure plan, push for better coordination with county and state funding, and demand accountability from contractors and departments responsible for maintenance.
Omar's Commitments
- Create and publish a clear multi-year road repair schedule
- Accelerate fixes for the worst drainage and pothole problem areas
- Improve coordination with county and state infrastructure grants
- Hold departments and contractors accountable for timely results
Priority 04
Responsible Development
Protect the character of our neighborhoods and stop overdevelopment.
Saddle Brook is a residential community first. High-density projects that overload streets, schools, and services threaten the quality of life residents value. Omar will fight for smart, controlled growth that respects existing neighborhoods while still allowing reasonable economic opportunity.
He will demand stricter review of traffic, parking, and school impacts, push back against excessive density, and make sure longtime residents are not priced out or crowded out of the town they built.
Omar's Commitments
- Strengthen review of high-density development proposals
- Require clear traffic and infrastructure impact studies
- Protect neighborhood character and quality of life
- Support housing options that keep longtime residents in Saddle Brook
